From an early age, Mrs. McGuire knew her destiny - teaching. She began working with children at the age of 16 as a camp counselor with the YMCA and continued her work there for eight consecutive years. During college, she served as a Big Sister with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
Upon graduation, she accepted a position with Children's World as a mobile computer educator. Mrs. McGuire drove a giant dragon (school bus size) to different sites teaching technology skills to people of all ages - three years to eighty years old! Although she loved this experience, classroom teaching was still at the center of her heart.
After substitute teaching for one year (quite the experience in itself!), she accepted a position teaching 3rd grade at Most Precious Blood Catholic School (MPB). At MPB, she was highly involved with the student body, organizing and directing a 50+ student talent show for two years, helping students maintain and run the school store, and spending time with students at recess playing kickball. It was during this time that Mrs. McGuire realized another dream, earning her master's degree in education.
After 3 wonderful years at MPB, Mrs. McGuire decided it was time to change schools and find a position closer to her home in the mountains. Two schools and two grades later, (she also taught 4th and 5th grade), she accepted a 3rd grade position at Deer Creek Elementary, which is very close to her home in the hills. Mrs. McGuire returned to DCES as a Kindergarten teacher after spending a year at home with her newborn son. Today you'll find her keeping busy teaching and raising her wonderful son.
Learning for Mrs. McGuire is a life long journey. Words of Wisdom- "What we learn with pleasure, we never forget."
